Volunteers Make A Big Impact!

Volunteering your time and talents can be a powerful force for positive change, enriching the lives of both our students and our volunteers themselves. Our students cherish meeting new people, and we promise that you will leave feeling gratified and excited to come back.

I wanted to volunteer at Pathways because I like to focus on what people can achieve and not their limitations. The teachers and staff are very welcoming to me and are always positive and encouraging to students. This is such a wonderful approach!

I went into this experience expecting to serve others but have found that I am the one that has been profoundly impacted. The immediate and genuine friendships, kindness, and acceptance I’ve experienced with staff and students alike have opened my heart and broadened my perspective on what it means to live a meangingful, Godly life.

Steps to Become a Volunteer

Volunteers must pass a background check and complete a volunteer application to work directly with our students. Once those forms are processed, volunteer training is scheduled. Training is typically during the day and lasts one hour. The approval process, from application to training, typically takes about two weeks.

The Pathways mentoring program pairs a community member with a student. Mentor pairs meet once per week, for 30 minutes to 1 hour, in-person or online, and work on math, reading, and life skills, using our individualized curriculum. Students who are matched with mentors are significantly more likely to experience growth in these areas, and both the students and the volunteer mentors report that they are blessed by the special relationship!

LEARN MORE ABOUT MENTORING!

One of the best ways to interact with our students is by volunteering in a classroom! Classroom volunteers assist our teachers with many different needs, like preparing supplies for an upcoming lesson, organizing materials, or helping students engage with activities. Classroom volunteers can determine the frequency and schedule based on their availability between Monday – Friday 9 am and 5 pm. We’re looking for volunteers at least 18 years old and no experience is necessary. Training is provided.

We organize several events every year that need a considerable number of volunteers to contribute just a few hours of their time, with little or no training required. This small commitment can have a significant impact! It is an excellent opportunity for people looking to gain volunteer hours. Kids and teens are welcome to volunteer, but a parent, guardian or chaperone may be required to accompany them.

We’d love for you to showcase your hobby or skill to our students for 30 minutes! Our previous Special Guest Teachers, including a dental hygienist and a Titanic enthusiast, were a huge hit. You must be 18 years or older to participate. Let’s inspire and educate our students together!

Field trip chaperones play a crucial role in ensuring our students are safe and able to be fully engaged on the field trip. Chaperones will guide the students around the venue and keep track of them while enjoying the adventure. We provide all the necessary staff support and resources to ensure chaperones have a fantastic time. We welcome applicants who are 18 years or older, and we appreciate your interest in contributing to our students’ education.

Committee members assist the board in achieving program goals, from fundraising to finances to policy work to curriculum planning. Committees meet approximately six times per year. Must be 18 or older.

Board members play a critical role in providing oversight and leadership to our organization, helping to shape our long-term strategic planning. With their expertise, innovative ideas, and passion for our mission, they contribute to making Pathways the best it can be. Board members may serve for two consecutive terms of three years each for a total of six years. The board time commitment includes seven board meetings per year on Thursday evenings, one Saturday strategic planning session, six committee meetings, and several events over the course of each year. To become a board member, you must be 18 years or older.
