When Shelby first came to Pathways, she was quiet and unsure. She often sat in the corner of the classroom, hesitant to engage with others. Social situations felt overwhelming, and she didn’t show much interest in class. She rarely spoke and didn’t want to have conversations, not even with her teachers. But over time, Shelby began to open up, and her transformation has been beautiful.

Today, she’s full of joy and connection. “My favorite part of Pathways is lunch!” Shelby says. It’s during lunch that she gets to see all her friends. She’s often found laughing, telling jokes, and enjoying meaningful conversations with the people around her.

Shelby now participates in class, talks with her teachers, and is one of the first to comfort a friend who’s having a hard day. Her sweet and caring personality shines through everything she does.

“I don’t like going home,” she says. “I want to stay at Pathways forever.”

Watching Shelby grow has been a privilege. Her story reminds us that with support, encouragement, and belonging, every student can flourish. We’re so proud of her and so lucky to have her at Pathways.
