Become a Mentor!

The Pathways mentoring program pairs a community member with a student. Mentor pairs meet once per week, for 30 minutes to 1 hour, in-person or online, and work on math, reading, and life skills, using our individualized curriculum. Students who are matched with mentors are significantly more likely to experience growth in these areas, and both the students and the volunteer mentors report that they are blessed by the special relationship!

Benefits of Mentoring

Mentoring relationships are incredibly valuable and offer an opportunity for both the mentor and mentee to learn and grow together. Many mentors find that the most rewarding aspect of mentoring is building a strong friendship with their students and helping them achieve their goals. Mentoring can bring a lot of positive things to a mentor’s life.
  • Achieve personal growth and learn more about themselves
  • Gain a better understanding of intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Develop more empathy and gain a better understanding of inclusion
  • Know that they are making a difference in the life of a student
  • Grow in their faith and enhance their relationship with the Lord

Qualities of a Mentor

Our personalized approach to mentorship carefully pairs mentors with students based on their distinct qualities – personality, skills, and availability. While each mentoring relationship is unique, there are a few qualities we look for:
  • A desire to build a relationship with their student
  • Dedication and commitment to consistent attendance
  • Kindness and respect for others
  • A growth mindset and ability to adapt
