When Mary first heard that Pathways needed more mentors, she felt a gentle tug on her heart. She knew she had so much love to give, and a special memory to honor. Years ago, her nephew Georgie, who had Down syndrome, brought endless light into her life. Though he passed away years ago, the joy he gave her has never faded. So, Mary stepped forward to become a mentor, hoping to make a difference for someone else while keeping his spirit alive.

From her very first session with John, she knew she was exactly where she was meant to be. He invited her to dance around their mentoring table, and in that small, unexpected moment, Mary felt a spark of connection and pure joy she’ll never forget. Now, each week, that spark grows brighter as she laughs and learns alongside John.

Pathways means the world to Mary. She knows firsthand how much the program helps students thrive and often thinks about how Georgie would have loved a place like this. If you’ve ever wondered if you could make a difference, Mary would tell you: you absolutely can. There’s a friendship waiting to touch your heart, too.
