Ross often said, “I was supposed to be a mentor, but Pathways and Joey really mentored me.” That was Ross—always learning, always laughing, and always giving his whole heart.
From the very beginning of our mentor program, Ross was a committed and enthusiastic mentor. He mentored sweet Joey, even embracing Joey’s interest in WWE. He celebrated every win with Joey—big and small—and the two of them shared an incredible bond, fueled by humor, joy, and genuine friendship. They became close, like family. In fact, Ross was still mentoring Joey in the hospital the day before Joey passed in 2023. After that visit, Ross told us that Joey had been HIS mentor that day, and he called it one of the best days of his life.
Ross had a way of making everyone feel seen and valued. He treasured mentoring Joey, supporting Pathways, and advocating passionately for our mission over all these years. One of his favorite reflections was:
“I mentor today because my wife said I had to try it. As usual, she aimed me towards an adventure I now dearly love to do. The founders and the staff truly provide an awesome value to the community. I seriously believe this kind of venture is just what the Lord placed me on this big round ball for in the first place.”
He also loved Joey’s favorite catchphrase, “Never Give Up!”—a motto he carried into everything he did. Ross’s warmth, humor, and dedication left a lasting mark on Pathways. Our students and staff alike were blessed to know him and call him a friend.
Though we’ll miss him dearly, Ross’s impact will live on in the lives he touched and the community he helped build. To honor his memory, we can carry forward his spirit of kindness—by volunteering, supporting Pathways, or simply showing a little extra love to those around us.
Thank you, Ross, for everything you gave, and for the joy and love you shared. Your light will continue to shine through all of us.
